A Wild and Crazy Fringe Day

A lot is going on today here at Fringe! Not only did we have the very funny and handsome Ben Stiller filming his new movie across the street, (please notice all the movie equipment in the background) we also had a mob of cool and crazy kids come in for a school field trip.

Once at the salon, these adorable little ones enjoyed some funky do's from Amy and Suz...showing that kids can be badasses too!

Fringe: As Seen on Tv

We are very excited to say that we had a little cameo in yesterdays episode of Girls! The scene above happens about 10 minutes into the new episode, showing the endearing Shoshanna (played by Zosia Mamet) having coffee with an old camp mate and potential love interest.

It's no secret to everyone around me that I am completely obsessed with this show. But after seeing Fringe in yesterdays episode, I have to ask:

Lena Dunham, are you following me?
Now, I know that there are plenty of 25 year old women, living in Greenpoint, trying to figure themselves out. And I am sure that many of these young women feel some sort of connection to the show. But I'd like to think that this show speaks to me more than the average post art-school lady (pretentious? perhaps, but I'm a SVA photo major so please forgive me). Every single episode holds, within its script, at least 3 situations and word-for-word conversations that I have had. Even the mannerisms are the same! You're artsty and funny, I'm artsy and funny...basically Lena, what I am trying to say is, you really seem to get me, and I truthfully think that we'd get along, so lets hang out. I don't know, maybe get some ice cream or go see the Francesca Woodman show at the Gugg?
Hit me up at the salon! Seriously, let's make this happen.

Fringe's Fantastic Foto of the Week

An education is a terrible thing to waste, and so I have decided that I will be integrating my photography background (School of Visual Arts represent!) and Fringe into something I will call 'Fringe's Fantastic Foto of the Week'. Enjoy!

Lesbians That Look Like Justin Bieber Sexy Women

Last week, Autostraddle posted the article Queer Girl City Guide: Manhattan is the New Manhattan, and in it was our very own Jenn!! The article has lots a of great go-to places for the lesbian persuasion, including where to get your hair done...at Fringe. With Jenn.

Interviewed for the article, Jenn states, "I have a lot of short haired clients who are queer and come to me looking for something that is not feminine. I try and give them a haircut that makes them comfortable with themselves - makes them happy. A lot of my queer clients go to that extreme and want to shave, texture, keep a tail, [or] wear a mullet. And they wear it better than my male clients. It's their individuality that makes the hair, not their sexuality."

Stop by or call to book your next appointment with Jenn!!

Captain Planet? More like Captain Fringe.

Ever wonder what hair salons do with all that left over hair? Well, most of them throw it in the garbage. But here at Fringe, we are very proud to say that we have joined forces with the Lower East Side Ecology Center, and have started composting our hair! Hair is a great source of Nitrogen and has also been used to help soak up oil spills. We love Mother Earth and are trying to be as green as possible. If you are interested in composting, click here get more information!

Fringe Art Opening Thursday Dec. 15th

Life "Aaj Kal" (Life, these days) ©Sunita Jariwala-Gajjar

We are very excited to announce our art opening for the talented Sunita Jariwala-Gajjar. Sunita's mixed media works are a way for her to show viewers a place or moment which was special to her during many journeys:

"Each Earthscape represents a different part of my personal journey that I want to communicate to you. Some may transport you to a particular destination or tell a story about a place. Others represent feelings I experienced along the way. Whatever the inspiration or moment I'm capturing, the end result is intended to be the same: a new artistic expression that archives, transforms and celebrates my physical journey in a provocative and unexpected way." -Sunita Jariwala-Gajjar

Please stop by Thursday, December 15th, at 8pm to check out Sunitas amazing work!!
